How it works

Third-i uses advanced facial analysis technology to accurately determine each shopper's demographic (with 98.1% accuracy without masks, and 97.5% accuracy with masks) and their prevailing sentiment (as reflected in their facial expressions) when they engage with the products on the smart display.

Third-i technology also collects data on the length of time consumers spend engaged with your brand or products – this can indicate when they require additional information to help them choose between products. Crucially, Third-i is non-intrusive and does not detract from the shopping experience.

Regulatory Compliance

Third-i technology is entirely compliant with data protection measures, including South Africa's POPIA legislation and the EU's GDPR framework. Compliance is ensured by the focus on identifying types of people rather than specific individuals, and by the fact that no images or video are recorded or uploaded to a storage facility.

Unit Design

Our retail solutions are designed for optimum alignment with both your brand and store environments. The compact design of the combined smart camera/supercomputer units means that they can be easily installed and linked to screens store-wide, including at entrances and as an integral part of gondola ends, permanent displays in the primary run, standalone permanent displays and blitz displays; above fridges and freezers; at bakery, butchery, and dispensary counters; at tills; and above kiosks.


The use of adaptive messaging lets the unit act as both a highly targeted communications tool and a means to gather data that facilitates enhanced understanding of consumers and their response to optimised messaging. In primary shelf areas, where space is limited, content screen inclusion may not be possible. Instead, the Third-i unit can be installed in an element similar to a static shelf defender, with its primary purpose being to gather shopper data.
